Woodland Grange Primary School Weather Project
As
part of a Weather topic Year 5 set up a small weather station
with various equipment including computer controlled sensors
and made daily measurements of temperature, wind speed, air
pressure, rainfall and cloud cover.
We plotted the information into a data base and looked for
weather patterns.
We linked up with O.W. Holmes school in Dorchester, Massachusetts
and also with Fairbanks Prep in Alaska.
We exchanged weather data daily by e-mail.
We made good use of 'Weather.Com' a site on the Internet that
gives up to date weather reports with satellite pictures from
all over the world.
Read example weather reports from the same period below which
gives an indication of the difference in different parts of
the world...............

"Here's
the weather from Alaska! Today we had our first sprinkling
of snow mixed with drizzle early this morning. It was quite
a surprise after a week of beautiful Indian summer weather.
The snow didn't stick THIS time. It is 7:45 p.m. and the temp
is 34 degrees above F. It's supposed to get down to 30 tonight."
"Hello
from Dorchester, Massachusetts! Today is warm and cloudy.
It is 70°F and humid with very little wind. We don't have
a barometer - so I can't give you those readings. It still
seemslike summer, here but we miss the blue sky."
"Hello
from Fairbanks, Alaska.
It is a beautiful Fall day. The sun is bright with only a
few clouds in the sky. The smell of snow is in the air. It
is 45°F at 7:00pm. We are experiencing full Autumn colors
now and the Moose are eating the last of the garden vegetables!"
